A pun name borrowed from a retail home collection company in Indonesia. Unforma was founded in 2020 by Taufik Oktama and set up in order to distribute their software on the world wide web. In 2015 we started exploring web technology especially React.js, Node.js, Python Programming, and all things connected, those are quite common on that era. In the meantime, a friend challenge us to do font things on web, accept the challenge because we really like challenging new things. We have to learn how to do font things on web, started from how to display font, recognize and use font features, and nothing’s difficult there. Continues to how to display a bunch list of glyphs? In a hard coded ways it is just peace of cake. Just making a small program to render alphabet character and punctuations, safe and sounds.
Since we know that each font has a different features, number of glyphs, and even different scripts across language, come a big question “how to do it in a programming ways?“. In computer programming there’s a term DRY — Don’t Repeat Yourself, and we always adhere to that. Too late to realize that fonts are just a computer software, so immediately learn what exactly font is. Based on a great passions to parsing binary font data to human readable format, and let’s learn from it. Forcing us to dig deeper, to get lost, and to despair. Did not realize we were in the area of aesthetic, typography, and engineering.
